It discusses using SQL Server to create, manage, and access database information, and the tasks and commands of a system administrator. Additional topics covered in this series include management of user accounts and groups, granting and revoking permissions, basic T-SQL programming commands and functions, and using T-SQL commands to create database queries, manipulate data, join queries, create subqueries, and insert and modify data.
This series is for database administrators who want to learn about using and managing Sybase System 11. This online course contains 7 lessons and should take approximately 23 hours to complete.
Lesson 1: Introduction to Sybase (3.0) hours
Introduction to Sybase teaches you how to compare characteristics of host and client/server systems, identify features and advantages of the Sybase client/server system architecture, explain the function of key Sybase components, tools, and utilities, and describe how Sybase System 11 accommodates non-Sybase applications. This course provides an overview to Sybase SQL Server, the client/server system model, and the tools and components of Sybase System 11. Topics include Host versus Client/Server Systems, Sybase Introduction, SQL Server, Data Replication, and Open Architecture, and System Management Tools and Servers.
Lesson 2: Using SQL Server (5.0) hours
Using SQL Server teaches you how to explain the basic features of SQL Server, describe the major functions of SQL and T-SQL, describe the security features and roles of SQL Server, perform database queries with isql, manage database tables, and update and maintain databases. This course introduces users to SQL Server and how to use it to create, manage, and access database information. Topics include SQL Server Overview, SQL Server Functions, SQL Server Features, T-SQL and Database Integrity, Triggers, Partitions, and Security, Using isql and Performing Queries, Viewing, Managing, and Creating Tables, and Maintaining Databases.
Lesson 3: System Administration (4.0) hours
System Administration teaches you how to explain the role of a system administrator, use system procedures for database administration, manage databases, and manage segments. This course provides an overview of the tasks and commands of a system administrator. Topics include The Role of a System Administrator, Using System Procedures, Creating and Dropping Database Devices, Creating and Altering Databases, and Managing Segments.
Lesson 4: User Administration (2.0) hours
User Administration teaches you how to create and manage user accounts, control user access and aliases, create and manage groups, create and manage roles, and grant and revoke permissions. This course shows users how to manage user accounts and groups in Sybase. Topics include Managing Server Logins, Managing User Access and Aliases, Managing Groups, Assigning and Managing Roles, Granting Permissions, and Revoking and Modifying Permissions.
Lesson 5: Programming with T-SQL (3.0) hours
Programming with T-SQL teaches you how to identify the basic features of T-SQL and isql, create, alter, and drop tables, specify integrity constraints to protect databases, create integrity rules and defaults, create and manage views, and create and manage indexes. This course introduces users to basic T-SQL commands and functions through the isql interface. Topics include Using T-SQL and isql, Managing Tables, Defining Integrity Constraints, Creating Integrity Defaults and Rules, Using Views, and Managing Indexes.
Lesson 6: Querying Databases with T-SQL (3.0) hours
Querying Databases with T-SQL teaches you how to create queries, use functions in queries, modify query results, order and group query results, use queries through views, and combine query results. This course shows users how to create database queries and to manipulate the data received through queries. Topics include Introduction to Queries, Using Functions in Queries, Manipulating Query Data, Ordering and Grouping Query Results, and Combining Queries and View Queries.
