Photoshop 7 - Online Course

This series is designed for beginning and intermediate Photoshop users. This series teaches users about image editing, what's new in version 7, the Photoshop interface, pixels, saving and printing, using the tools, making and modifying selections, layers, creating text effects, filters, color correction, and web graphics.

This series is for anyone who wants to get the most out of using Photoshop 7. This online course contains 13 lessons and should take approximately 44 hours to complete.

Lesson 1: The Application and Its Elements (3.0) hours

The Application and Its Elements teaches you how to identify the painting and image editing features of Photoshop, start and navigate through Photoshop, use Photoshop elements such as menus, dialog boxes, palettes, and toolbars, and create and manage Workspace and Tool Presets. This course provides an overview of the use of the Photoshop 7 interface and new product features. Topics include The capabilities of Photoshop, Painting and editing features, Changes in version 7, Starting Photoshop, Using the windows in Windows, Using the Finder in Macs, Navigating the menus, Using the dialog boxes, Managing the palettes, Accessing the toolboxes, and Using presets.

Lesson 2: Opening and Navigating Images (3.0) hours

Opening and Navigating Images teaches you how to open images, use the File Browser, explain an image window, move, navigate, and zoom in and out on an image, use the Navigator palette, and use rulers, guides, and grids. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to open images from a variety of sources (including CDs and digital cameras), navigate the File Browser, zoom in and out, as well as manage rulers, grids and guides. Topics include Opening a non-Photo CD image, Opening a Kodak Photo CD image, Opening an image from a digital camera, Using the new File Browser, The Image Window, Moving the screen, Zooming in and out on your work, The Navigator palette and screen modes, and Using rulers, guides, and grids.

Lesson 3: Pixels, Image Sizes, and Color (4.0) hours

Pixels, Image Sizes, and Color teaches you how to use the Image Size dialog box, understand pixels and resolution, change the number of pixels in an image, resize the canvas independent of an image, understand RGB color theory, manage color in Photoshop, view independent color channels, define colors using the Color palette, and convert color images to grayscale. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to adjust image size, resolution, dimensions, and canvas size. It also covers how to mix channels, set up color management, choose color settings, define colors, and work in greyscale. Lesson 4: Saving and Printing (4.0) hours

Saving and Printing teaches you how to save an image using various formats and options, create copies of an image, print an image, select a printer, paper size, and page orientation, and set printing and page setup options. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to save images in a variety of formats (TIFF, JPEG, GIF, EPS, PICT, BMP, PDF, PSD) and print images, contact sheets, picture packages, as well as prepare images for off-set printing. Lesson 5: The Paint Tools (4.0) hours

The Paint Tools teaches you how to use the Pencil and Brush tools, use the Brushes palette, create your own custom brush, select brushes from the keyboard, paint with different brush modes, and use the drawing tools. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to work with the Pencil and Brush tools, select brushes and create new brushes, and experiment with Brush modes. It also covers how to create and modify shapes. Lesson 6: Modifying Images (2.0) hours

Modifying Images teaches you how to use the Edit and Crop tools, cropping off unwanted portions of your image, select different focus and toning tools, smudge an image to remove imperfections, create an oil-painting effect, use the Blur tool, use the Dodge and Burn tools, adjust color saturation with the Sponge tool, eliminate red eye, and distort your image with the Liquify command. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to crop, trim, retouch, smudge, blur, dodge, burn, saturate, and liquify images. Lesson 7: Cleaning Images and Undoing (4.0) hours

Cleaning Images and Undoing teaches you how to use the Dust & Scratches command, work with the Clone Stamp, Healing Brush, and Patch tools, undo and Redo past actions, erase and revert to previous states, understand the History palette, and use the Eraser, History Brush, and Art History Brush tools. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to work with the Dust & Scratches command, Rubber Stamp tool, Healing Brush, and Patch tools when cleaning images. It also covers how to undo and redo past actions using a variety of methods (Undo/Redo command, erasing, reverting, History palette, Erase to History option, History Brush, and Art History Brush). Lesson 8: Making Selections (4.0) hours

Making Selections teaches you how to identify and use the Photoshop selection tools, create a path containing straight lines and curves, edit paths, and identify and use Photoshop's automated masking tools. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to create selections and paths with the Lasso, Marquee, Magic Wand, Pen, and Eraser tools. It also covers how to make selections using the Color Range and Extract commands. Modifying Selections and Color Filling teaches you how to modify selections, transform selections and paths, fill a selection with a color, pattern, or gradient, and create custom gradients and patterns. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to transform selections and paths, as well as move, clone, paint, and fill selections. It also covers how to create gradients and patterns. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to create and edit point, box, outline, shadowed, and ghosted text. It also covers spell checking, rasterizing text, making shapes and paths from text, and creating type selection outlines. Lesson 12: Filters and Color Correction (3.0) hours

Filters and Color Correction teaches you how to use common filters such as blur and sharpen, correct color and color casts in an image, use an adjustment layer, correct brightness and contrast with the Levels command, and correct saturation with the variations command. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 to create a variety of effects (such as sharpening and blurring) using filters. It also covers how to use the color correction tools to improve an image. Creating Graphics for the Web teaches you how to identify when to use ImageReady, save graphics in a Web-friendly format, use Indexed Color, use the Save For Web command, create type for online viewing, use the Slice tool, and make a Web Photo Gallery. This course shows users how to use Photoshop 7 and Image Ready to create dynamic graphics for the Web. It also covers the pros and cons of common file formats (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WBMP), creating type and color palettes, and slicing graphics.
