Oracle8 - Online Course

This series introduces users to the Oracle 8 relational database management system. It examines its main components and installation, and discusses concepts related to database design, creation, and management, including creating, modifying, and managing tablespaces. Management of files and user accounts is also examined, along with table views and indexes. Advanced topics covered in this series include Oracle processes, job queues, and security monitoring. Data backup and recovery and database replication are also discussed in detail.

This series is for anyone who is interested in learning about the Oracle8 relational database management system, its main components, and how to install it. This online course contains 7 lessons and should take approximately 30 hours to complete.

Lesson 1: Installing Oracle (4.0) hours

Installing Oracle teaches you how to define the job of Oracle Administration, explain basic Oracle operation, list the factors that affect Oracle performance, prepare for Oracle installation, install Oracle, and identify the major components of Oracle. Database Management teaches you how to plan for database capacity and size, calculate the system requirements of a database and server, calculate the disk requirements of a database and server, manage a database, use Server Manager and Database Assistant, start and shut down instances of databases, and connect to and modify instances of databases. This course shows users how to manage the Oracle8 databases and servers. Topics include Planning for Capacity and Sizing, Calculating the System Requirements, Calculating the Disk Requirements, Managing the Database, The Oracle Enterprise Manager, Server Manager and Database Assistant, Starting and Shutting Down Instances, and Connecting to and Modifying an Instance.

Lesson 3: Building Databases (4.0) hours

Building Databases teaches you how to plan and design a database, prepare for a new database, create a new database and catalog, modify a database, create and modify tablespaces, and manage tablespaces. This course shows users how to create and set up new Oracle databases. Topics include Database Planning and Design, Creating a New Database and Catalogs, Modifying Databases, Creating Tablespaces, Modifying Tablespaces, and Managing Tablespaces.

Lesson 4: Files, Data, and Users (4.0) hours

Files, Data, and Users teaches you how to use redo log files, describe control files and rollback segments, create user accounts, manage user accounts, and manage user roles. This course shows users how to manage files, import and export data, and manage user accounts. Database Schema Objects teaches you how to create tables, manage different table views and types, create indexes, and identify and use index types. Lesson 6: Processes and Security (4.0) hours

Processes and Security teaches you how to export and import data using Export/Import, load data using the SQL*Loader Utility, describe the types of Oracle processes, monitor Oracle processes, manage Oracle job queues, and use Oracle Auditing for security monitoring. This course explains server processes and discusses how to use Oracle security features.
