This series is for anyone who wants to learn how to administer NetWare 5, or prepare for Novell CNE 5 Test #050-639 or CNI Test #050-839. This online course contains 9 lessons and should take approximately 28 hours to complete.

Lesson 1: NetWare Basics (3.0) hours

NetWare Basics teaches you how to identify the basic elements of a computer network and explain their functions, define Novell Directory Services and design an NDS tree, select appropriate protocol configurations for a network, and install and configure Novell client software on a workstation. This course introduces networking concepts and the role of NetWare 5. It also covers the procedures for installing the Novell Client and logging in to the NetWare 5 network. Topics include Networking and NetWare, Novell Directory Services, NDS and Resource Access, Network Communications, Selecting a Protocol, and The Novell Client.

Lesson 2: Installation (4.0) hours

Installation teaches you how to create DOS and NetWare partitions, prepare a machine to be a NetWare 5 server, and install NetWare 5 on a computer from an installation CD-ROM. This course provides instructions on how to perform a basic and custom installation of NetWare 5 on a new computer. Topics include Preparing to Install NetWare 5, Creating a DOS Partition, Creating the NetWare Partition, Protocols, NDS, and Licenses, Completing the Installation, NetWare Architecture and Management, and Novell Licensing Services.

Lesson 3: Using NDS (3.0) hours

Using NDS teaches you how to identify NDS objects and their properties, use the CX command to find NDS objects and set user context, install a Netscape browser, create User objects with NetWare Administrator, ConsoleOne and UIMPORT, set user login restrictions, and create Alias, Application, and Group objects. This course examines Novell Directory Services (NDS), including objects and object properties. This course shows users how to use the CX command to find NDS objects and set user context. It also shows users how to create User, Alias, and Group objects. Topics include Browsing the NDS Tree, Creating User Objects, Login Security, ConsoleOne and UIMPORT, and Shortcuts to Network Resources.

Lesson 4: File System (4.0) hours

File System teaches you how to explain the relationship of the file system and login scripts, create login scripts, manage file system directories and files, and map network drives. This course provides an introduction to NetWare 5 file system concepts and management procedures. Topics include Managing the File System, Volume Space, Examining Login Scripts, Creating and Executing Login Scripts, Drive Mappings, and Login Scripts and Resources.

Lesson 5: NDS Security (3.0) hours

NDS Security teaches you how to explain the concepts and purpose of NDS security, make trustee assignments, grant users access to objects, and work with inherited rights. This course shows users how to control access to NDS objects by granting users rights and managing those rights.
