This series provides both theoretical and practical information about the topics covered on the Red Hat Certified Technician exam. Learners will learn how to install and configure Linux Red Hat, as well as how to perform routine administrative and maintenance tasks.

RHCT Prerequisites

This course provides an overview of Linux fundamentals, including the use of text editors and file management commands, the basics of networking and security, and an introduction to hardware and hardware compatibility and teaches you how to identify the various Linux filesystems and explain the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, execute basic Linux commands at the command line, identify and describe security mechanisms in Linux, identify important networking tools and network services, describe the Linux hardware compatibility list and determine whether a device is compatible with Linux, and install and mount an external device.

Installation

This course provides an overview of disk partitions, installation classes, and boot loaders and teaches you how to partition a disk, download Red Hat Linux, configure and customize a local installation and a network installation, configure Linux file systems on different disk partitions, and explain a partitioning and installation strategy.

Advanced Installation

This course shows learners how to troubleshoot the Linux installation process, how to perform advanced disk configuration tasks, and how to perform automated installations and teaches you how to troubleshoot and validate a Linux installation, describe the purpose and capabilities of the GRUB boot loader, partition a disk, configure RAID, manage logical volumes, and perform an automated installation.

Basic Configuration and Administration

This course explains the basic configuration and administration of a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system It explains how to create a user account, how to populate a user's home directory, and how to configure a window manager It also describes the different types of Linux filesystems and explains how they are mounted and teaches you how to add, delete, and modify a user account, create a user's home directory and specify user environment variables, explain how filesystems are mounted and describe the role of the automounter, add and remove upgrades using the Red Hat Package Manager, and identify the steps of the boot process.

Kernel, User, and Recovery Administration

This course shows learners how to configure and manage many aspects of the user environment and the kernel It explains how to manage disk quotas, scheduled jobs, services, and special users; it also explains how to use the linux rescue environment to repair a system that cannot be booted and teaches you how to set up a shell configuration file, configure and manage disk quotas, identify and describe key kernel modules and modify kernel variables, describe the characteristics of services and special users, schedule jobs, explain the Red Hat user private group scheme, and restore a system using the linux rescue environment.

The X Window System

This course shows learners how to configure the X Window system on network clients It explains the X Server and X Clients and explains how X Window security is managed on a network and teaches you how to configure an X Server and an X Font Server, connect an X Window Client application to an X Server, use the X Window system to run a graphic application remotely, configure a desktop and a window manager, configure the start process for the X Window system, and use basic graphical applications on the Linux platform.

Linux Network Clients

This course shows learners how to configure network clients and their connections to network services using Linux Red Hat and teaches you how to use an FTP client, configure Samba services, configure a DNS server, configure a DHCP server, create and configure an NFS client, set up print services, and set up system logging.
