Oracle9i Database Fundamentals 1Z0-031

This series is designed to help users who have experience with relational databases, SQL, and networking prepare for the Oracle 9i 1Z0-031 exam. Users will be introduced to the major components of an Oracle server and the database structure, and will learn how to create and manage such components as databases, instances, tablespaces, tables, datafiles, storage units, undo data, tables, indexes, data integrity, users, profiles, privileges, and roles.

This series is for anyone preparing for the Oracle 1Z0-031: Oracle9i DBA Fundamentals I exam, or anyone who wants an introduction to Oracle database fundamentals. This online course contains 10 lessons and should take approximately 29 hours to complete.

Oracle Architecture and Tools

This course introduces users to the major components of an Oracle server and teaches you how to explain the Oracle server architecture, identify how users connect to the Oracle server, list tools used by DBAs to administer Oracle, describe the benefits of Optimal Flexible Architecture, and install Oracle using Oracle Universal Installer.

Managing Instances and Creating Databases

This course introduces users to managing an Oracle instance, creating a database, and using globalization parameters and teaches you how to create and manage an initialization parameter file, configure Oracle-managed files, use the startup command, list the different options available for starting Oracle, shut down an Oracle instance, describe the two types of diagnostic files used in Oracle, list the prerequisites necessary for database creation, list values that must be set in the parameter file, use the Database Configuration Assistant, create a database with the create database command, define a character set for your database, configure language-dependent behavior for the your database, and retrieve NLS information from the your database.

Managing the Database Structure

This course introduces users to data dictionaries, control files, and redo log files and teaches you how to use data dictionary views, query the data dictionary, use control files, and work with redo logs.

Managing Tablespaces and Datafiles

This course introduces users to creating and managing tablespaces and teaches you how to describe the logical structure of Oracle databases, create tablespaces, manage temporary segments, take tablespaces online and offline, change tablespace storage settings, and use Oracle-Managed Files (OMF) with tablespaces.

Managing Storage Structures and Undo Data

This course introduces users to the underlying storage structure of a database and to using undo segments and teaches you how to identify storage needs for different segment types, control the size allocation of extents and segments, acquire extents in dictionary-managed tablespaces, use multiple extents when using parallel processors, list the keywords that control block space usage, obtain information about storage from the data dictionary, describe the purpose of undo data, implement automatic undo management, create and configure undo segments, size OLTP and batch undo segments, and maintain undo segments manually.

Managing Tables

This course introduces users to creating and managing table structures and teaches you how to explain how tables can store data, create permanent and temporary tables, manage storage structures, relocate tables, and drop unused columns.

Managing Indexes and Data Integrity

This course introduces users to indexes and data integrity constraints and teaches you how to describe the different types of indexes and their uses, create various types of indexes, reorganize and drop indexes, monitor index usage, implement data integrity constraints, maintain integrity constraints, and obtain index and constraint information from the data dictionary.

Managing Users and Profiles

This course introduces users to creating and managing users and to control resources using profiles and teaches you how to create new database users, manage existing users, monitor information about existing users, control resource use with profiles, administer profiles, manage passwords using profiles, and obtain profile information from the data dictionary.

Managing Privileges and Roles

This course introduces users to system and object privileges and user roles and teaches you how to identify system and object privileges, grant and revoke privileges, identify auditing capabilities, create and modify roles, control availability of roles, remove roles, use predefined roles, and display role information from the data dictionary.

Exam Preparation

This course allows users to practice answering questions in order to prepare for taking the exam and teaches you how to after completing this course, the user should be familiar with all the exam objectives for the Oracle 1Z1-031: Oracle9i DBA Fundamentals I exam.
